Neighborhood Transformation gave us
the list below to know what Transformation looks like. This is a great list to measure progress. How does the neighborhood you live in stack up against
this list?
What a NT Neighborhood
Could Eventually Look Like
- Neighbors feel this is a good place to live and raise your kids
- Well-built and maintained homes and apartments,
- Healthy people, each one practicing good hygiene.
- Streets and yards not clogged with junk cars and other junk
- Unity and cooperation among the neighborhood members.
- People doing things together.
- A primary school with children testing well
- Streets that are clean and a good system for garbage disposal.
- Basic services which are accessible to everyone.
- An organized neighborhood association truly representing the neighborhood.
- Absence of bars and gambling.
- Christian churches reaching out wholistically to their neighbors.
- People meaningfully employed
- Adequate income for everyone.
- More adults with a GED
- Little or no drug dealing in their neighborhood
- Elimination of prostitution in their neighborhood.
- Most homes worshiping the Lord.
- Neighbors knowing and reaching out to their neighbors
- Neighborhood members who serve as volunteers
- People living in harmony with each other, helping each other.
- A can-do attitude proud of what they have accomplished
- Greatly reduced or non-existent crime.
- Reduction in abuse among family members
So how is Granada Estates
doing?
- Neighbors expressed concern about the crime in the neighborhood at the recent Block Watch meeting.
- Most live in old mobile homes
- Many are disabled, many on drugs, poverty is also a hindrance to health.
- Many are horders or use the outside area of their property for additional living space. Many don't have the ability to get rid of old vehicles.
- This is starting to happen as neighbors explore what a Block Watch means.
- Here we have given an example when we go out together. I have heard stories of neighbors helping other neighbors. We have given them opportunities to help.
- Kids in our neighborhood are not testing well as of yet. GE needs tutors to help.
- The City of Glendale does a good job with this. Those with issues in their yards fall under Code Compliance. They also provide bulk trash pick-up regularly.
- Again the City does it's best to provide basic services and to help with getting them. Their money is limited so that is becoming more of an issue.
- We have been working toward identifying leadership in the neighborhood and may have some success come out of the Block Watch.
- While there are no bars, I am unaware of gambling. However there is a significant drug problem in the area.
- GE has Faith Bible Church reaching out to them along with some home churches lead by Ed Waken.
- In this society today there are many who are unemployed.
- This is a mostly poor neighborhood.
- Blueprint Education has helped us with some of the education needs so there is progress.
- Drugs are a huge issue in the neighborhood.
- I am unaware of any prostitution going on in the neighborhood.
- The goal is that none should perish but basic needs have to be met before spiritual exploration can happen.
- Many neighbors know about each other. We have found that survival depends on watching out for each other.
- So far we have seen very little volunteer involvement outside of the neighborhood. Inside I have seen some neighbors helping others.
- There is some harmony but that is disrupted by the pockets of drug users.
- So far the neighbors haven't seen much accomplishment to be proud of.
- Crime has gone down because of our involvement but statistically it is going up because more people are calling it in. That is an improvement.
- Sadly abuse is still going on. City police are often called in for domestic violence.
I feel we have made some strides
forward but it is a slow
process. We know that we have goals and
what the goals look like. Measuring the process regularly will document successful transformation.
